There are two or more continuous dependent variables in MANOVA. The initial test assumes that there is a linear combination of the dependent variables.

Hypothesis: The independent variable of interest has an effect on the linear combination of the dependent variables, when controlling for other independent variables and interactions among independent variables.

If there is a multivariate effect of the independent variables, then a series of normal ANOVA analyses are done with each of the actual dependent variables.
