Q. What is meant by ‘media' of Communication?

Ans. MEDIA (OR MEANS) OR COMMUNICATION: Communication is a phenomenon in which a communicator or participant in communication event transmits or sends a message/information to another communicator through a mutually understood set of symbols. This mutually understood set of messages is the means or medium (media) through which the sender encodes his message and the receiver decodes or understand it with. For humans the most effectively and commonly used medium is language. Other species have their system or set of signals that defines it own limited purpose. But it cannot be known as language because the other species do not use words or sentences. Only the human beings use words, the combination and production of which makes language. Media of communication can be nonverbal or verbal. The verbal includes written or oral. The non-verbal will be through body language or sign language.
