Manifest

Assembly metadata is always stored in the Manifest. Manifest consists of all metadata required to do the following things:

1) Version of assembly

2) Security identity

3) Scope of the assembly

4) Resolve references to resources &  classes

5) The assembly manifest can be stored in either a PE file (an .exe or the .dll) along with the Microsoft intermediate language (MSIL) code or in a stand-alone PE file that contains only assembly manifest information.
