- Full domain name is a sequence of labels separated by dots (.)

- Fully competent domain name (FQDN) contains the full name of a host cis.usouthal.edu.

- Partially qualified domain name (PQDN) does not include all the levels between host and root node

- Resolver supplies the suffix to create an FQDN

- Domains may perhaps be divided into subdomains
