Q. What is coated electrode?

These types of electrodes are prepared by coating of flux on metal wire. Due to arc metal electrode melts and used as filler metal. Flux melts and forms some gas which prevents contact of oxygen and nitrogen with molten metal and also flux covers molten metal pool which is known as slag. When metal cools this slag can be removed by chipping.
