What is archaebacteria, Biology

Assignment Help:

What is Archaebacteria ?

Archaebacteria is a relatively new grouping that was created in the light of relatively recent biochemical and electron microscopic evidence. These findings center around differences between the Archaebacteria and the other Eubacteria in terms of cell wall, cell membranes, ribosomes, photosynthetic pigments, and ribosomes.

There are 3 major groups of Archaebacteria:

  1. Methanogens - anaerobic bacteria that use hydrogen for energy and produce methane gas as a product
  2. Halophilic bacteria - bacteria that "love salt" and live in saline conditions
  3. Thermophilic bacteria - those "heat loving" bacteria that live in hot springs at temperatures up to and beyond 90 degrees
