Q. What is parthenogenesis?

Parthenogenesis is the formation or reproduction of a new individual from the egg cell but without fecundation by the male gamete. According to the species, individuals born by parthenogenesis may be female or male, or of any sex.

In bees the females (queen and workers) are diploid and while the drone (the single male bee) is haploid born by parthenogenesis.
