What are total variables and degrees of freedom of a system of two components, when the number of phases is one, two, three etc.? 

Ans:  For two - component systems, degree of freedom can be calculated by modified phase rule given as:

F = C-P+2

And the total number of variables can be calculated by:

P(C-1) +2
