What are the rules which must be kept in mind when designing castings?
Some of the points which should be kept in mind during the process of cast designing are as follows:
> To avoid concentration of stresses sharp corners and frequent use of fillets must be avoided.
> Section thicknesses must be uniform as much as possible. For variations it should be done gradually.
> Abrupt changes in the thickness must be avoided at all costs.
> Simplicity is the key, casting must be designed as simple as possible.
> It's difficult to create true large spaces and henceforth large flat surfaces should be avoided.
> Ribs and webs used for stiffening in castings must as minimal as possible.
> Curved shapes can be used in order to improve stress handling of cast.
A machine having a mass of 100 Kg and supported on springs of total stiffness 7.84 x 105 n/m has an unbalanced rotating element which results in a disturbing force of 400 N at a sp
