What are the graphics adapters, Computer Engineering

Assignment Help:

Graphics adapters:

Video card converts digital output from computer into an analog video signal and transmits the signal through a cable to monitor also known as a graphics card.

  • Number of colours a video card displays is determined by its bit depth
  • Video card's bit depth, also known as colour depth, is the number of bits it uses to store information about each pixel
  • I.e. 8-bit video card uses 8 bits to store information about each pixel; this video card can display 256 colours (2x2x2x2x2x2x2x2)
  • i.e. 24-bit video card uses 24 bits to store information about each pixel and can display 16.7 million colours
  • The greater the number of bits, better the resulting image Video Electronics Standards Association (VESA), which comprises video card and monitor manufacturers, develops video stands to define resolution, number of colours and other display properties.

a. Monochrome Display Adapter (MDA)

b. Hercules Graphics Card

c. Colour Graphics Adapter (CGA)

d. Enhanced Graphics Adapter (EGA)

e. Video Graphics Adapter (VGA)

f. Super VGA (SVGA) and Other Standards Beyond VGA
