What are the consequences of dispersion?
The main familiar result of dispersion is the splitting up of the composite white light within its constituent colours as into a rainbow or as observed by using a prism.
The other effect of dispersion is that while optical pulses of temporal width say T1 seconds along with a line width Δ λ nm is launched by the material, the pulse spreads into time as the wavelengths into the line width Δλnm travel with diverse velocities and some acquire delayed regarding the other. Thus, dispersion causes spreading of pulse in time domain.
