What are over lays?
If a large process enters which is huge than the available memory we are able to use overlays. In this we can divide process into pieces .which is recognized as overlays. Overlay 0 will implement first. After the implementation of 0, it will call another overlay to implement. A few overlay systems were highly complex, permitting multiple overlays in memory at once. The idea of overlay is to remain in memory only those instructions are needed at any given time.
Define lazy swapper. Rather than swapping the entire process into main memory, a lazy swapper is used. A lazy swapper never swaps a page into memory unless that page will be ne
Additional-reference-bits algorithm We can keep an 8-bit byte for every page in a table in memory. The operating system shifts the reference bits right 1 bit, discarding the lo
How is a process chosen for being swapped either in or out? Swap out: a. If the process is idle. b. If process has been in main memory for a long time.
What is a buddy system? We are dividing the memory as powers of two therefore the division will be 2, 4, 8, 16, 32, 64, 128, 256...i.e. in powers of 2 as well as we are selecti
The physical memory acts as a cache backed by the disk. When the physical memory is full, and we want to read in another page from disk, we have to evict a page from physical memor
