What are gateways?
Gateways give connectivity among two or more network segments. It is usually a computer that runs the gateway software and gives translation services. This translation is a key in allowing dissimilar systems to communicate on the network.
Ping and Traceroute are used by ICMP for Testing. Destination Unreachable messages are obtained by a router when it does not have a route to the network.
