What are fibers optics made of?

For visible light or lighting purposes spectrum transmission, several types of fibers are used. Glass in very suitable strands which have to be bunched together so as to make a sizeable light carrier, PMMA and polycarbonate in sizes 0,25 -  3 milimeter and solid core fibers made from particular polymers in a Teflon sheath from 3 milimeter to over one-inch thick. Other kinds of fibers such as liquid core, fluorescent, colored fibers and scintillating are a few used for specialized applications.
