What are end-terminations?
Again, we get ourselves in an area where many confusion and controversy are the order of the day. Several American institutions have tried to set standards regarding the correct terminology to be applied in fiber optics specification. There problems is that not every manufacturer is American and it was not asked their opinion in the issue, hence various people use various names referring to similar part or component.
Along with Illuminators occurs the same as with ends, one can notice reflected in manufacturer's literature names as: light source, light engine and generator. All refers to the similar box within lamp. End terminations suffer similar fate: single end, single termination, fiber end, emitting end, end, tip, last, common end, head, bundle head and end ferrule. To set a common ground we will utilize the term common end and single end. Terminations hence are the extremes of a single fiber or a collection of fibers.
