Q. What are emissive and absorption spectra?

Emission spectrum:

When the light emitted straight from a source is examined with a spectrometer the emission spectrum is obtained. Each source has its own characteristic emission spectrum.

Absorption spectrum:

When the light released from a source is made to pass through an absorbing material and then examined with a spectrometer absorption spectrum is obtained.
