Question
In linking fenders to pier organizations, would single lock nuts or double lock nuts be used?
Answer
In pier structures connection offenders to piers is achieved by using single lock nuts. But, they do not perform well since some timber fenders loosen additional easily when subject to vibrating loads due to berthing, wave and tidal actions. To explain this problem, double lock nuts must be adopted as they prove to function satisfactory in structural elements that are subject to frequent vibration loads.
