The Express Dry Cleaners currently has four locations in the Chicago area and willing be opening the fifth in the very near future.  Mr. James, the owner, would like to improve the overall efficiency of the four current locations and ensure that the new location will be a state of the art facility.  He has hired an efficiency consultant to help him determine which of the current locations is the most productive.  The workflow and processes used in the most efficient of his locations will be adopted by all of the locations.

After a process review at each location the following resource inputs were identified for each location.

  • Tailoring Staff - input 1
  • Laundry Staff - input 2
  • Dry Cleaning Staff - input 3
  • Pressing Staff - input 4
  • Expenses per month - input 5
  • Management Staff - input 6
  • Facility costs per month - input 7

The outputs (number of items processed) for each location have been identified as:

  • Full Service Dry Cleaning - output 1
  • One Hour Cleaning - output 2
  • Laundry Services - output 3
  • Express Press - output 4
  • Alterations - output 5
  • Wedding Gown Preservation - output 6
  • Drapery Cleaning and Pressing - output 7

The prices per unit of each input and output are reflected in the following table
