Trichomonas vaginalis - Protozoan

This cosmopolitan protozoan lives exclusively in the female vagina and male urethra or prostate. It causes a mild disease called trichomonas vaginitis. The protozoan is ovoid has four free anterior flagella and one recurved posterior one which is attached to a thin fin like extension of the body forming an undulating membrane. Transmission is through sexual contact or contamination with infected material.
