Overview
A structure is required to support a conveyor and various ancillary equipment, between two buildings in an industrial area. It is 12m long and made up of structural steel as shown in the accompanying sketches, in the figure below.
You are required to:
Draw, using combined scales 1:20 for Elevation, Plan & Section and 1:10 for details, the following views so that the supporting structure can be fabricated
a) Elevation.
b) Plan
c) Section.
d) NOTE : Students are also to draw any additional details or views that is not covered by views 1 to 3.
1. All bolts are 12 mm diameter HT steel; bolt holes are 14mm.diameter; minimum end cover to bolts is: Oblique cut 50; square cut 40; bolt centres are 50 minimum. The numbers of bolts required at connections and joints are as shown in the sketches.
2. H.D. bolts at supports are to be 20 mm diameter in 22 mm diameter holes, at "D" end, at 'C' end bolts are to be in slots 22 mm x 40 mm. In both cases bolts are to extend through flanges of lintel and channels.
3. At supports gusset plates for transoms are required at upper flanges only.
4. At supports the design of gusset plate for bracing is to be such that it does not foul the expansion joint nor packing pieces.
