Q. Show Leak Area Preparation?

Clearly mark the location of the leak on the flange with a permanent marker.

Notes: 1. Depressurizing hydrocarbon lines in non-emergency events is not desirable.

For high temperature service refer to ASME B16.5 for maximum allowable pressures.

The leak repair procedure can be implemented provided the following conditions are met:

Leak rates are considered manageable and environmental conditions in the proximity of the leak allow safe maintenance operations.

Every attempt to eliminate ignition sources has been made.

Non-sparking tools shall be used in cases of hydrocarbon leaks.

A qualified process supervisor, safety person, maintenance supervisor, and design engineer have reviewed and approved the work.

The leaking flange does not have a ring joint gasket.
