In this section, we will discuss about Sequential file organization. Sequential files have data records stored in a particular sequence. A sequentially organized file might be stored on either a serial-access or a direct-access storage medium.
Structure
In order to provide the 'sequence' required, a 'key' has to be defined for the data records. Generally a field whose values can uniquely identify data records is chosen as the key. If a single field cannot fulfill this criterion, then combination of fields can serve like a key.

What are the things require to implement ADT Abstract data types are very useful for helping us understand the mathematical objects which we use in our computations but, of cou
In the previous unit, we have discussed arrays. Arrays are data structures of fixed size. Insertion and deletion involves reshuffling of array elements. Thus, array manipulation
What are the Dynamic arrays Dynamic arrays are convenient for programmers since they can never be too small-whenever more space is needed in a dynamic array, it can simply be e
Indexed Sequential Files An index is inserted to the sequential file to provide random access. An overflow area required to be maintained to permit insertion in sequence. I
