Safety aspects of feed processing


Safety of the man and machine in a feed mill is very important to avoid the accidents. Some basic aspects of a good safety programme are as follows:
•  Maintenance of machine should be carried out at regular intervals.
•  All equipments must be locked before cleaning, adjusting or repairing.
•  Never take samples from moving equipment
•  Workers should have arrangements for head protection.
•  Good housekeeping should be maintained.
•  Leaks in steam supply should be checked at regular intervals and the defect, if any, should be repaired immediately.
•  All equipments should have safety guards.
•  Never open doors or covering to equipment, while it is in operation.
•  Proper tools should be kept ready while changing dies or performing maintenance of equipment.
