Migration - List a few forms of migration and their affects so far as Haiti is concerned

Cities - What role do cities, in Haiti and abroad, play in the book? What role in the revolution?
Religion - What role does religion have as far as the Haitians and French are concerned? Does it play a role amongst the European powers?
Family - How does the family change as a result of the chronology of the book? What affect does family have upon the historical characters?
Economy - What kind of economy do you suppose the Europeans are using, and why do you think this? What kind of economy does independent Haiti attempt to use?
State - What is the role of the state for the French, British, Spanish, and Haitians?
