Main cause of reconstructions failure, History

Assignment Help:

Some historians claim that the main cause of Reconstruction's failure was that when Lincoln died, so did his lenient plans to reunify America. Others argue that Reconstruction failed because the Republicans were not really "radical" and didn't go far enough when punishing former rebels and truly emancipating freedmen. In your opinion, why was Reconstruction largely a failure? Or was Reconstruction really a success? Whatever position you take, make sure to explain your answer.
