Is there any way to improve side- emitting viewing?

A side emitting light guide is viewed optimally while the contrast among the optic and background is maximized. When the light guide is placed upon a white track or may against a tight opaque white back the light is additionally apparent.

It does not mean that the optic issues more light simply that the illuminance falling upon the background enhances the overall luminance of the optic.
