Q. What is Insulin Dependent Diabetes Mellitus?
Mostly children and adolescents suffer from this type of diabetes however; it may appear in adults and elderly too. In this, there is little or no production of insulin by P- cells of the pancreas. Hence the young individuals require daily insulin injections. If daily injection is not taken, there could be life threatening metabolic complications and the symptoms could be very severe. Since various types of insulins are available (short term and long term), the carbohydrate content of the diet has to be adjusted accordingly. More people are underweight in this type of diabeles.
