After having understood the characteristics relating to CPU and storage media, let us try to learn about I/O aspects of a computer system. Input /output (I/O) devices now account for more them 50% of the cost associated with microcomputer system. They also have an impact on the ease of use of computer systems, and their popularity with users. Therefore, it is necessary to think carefully about the sort of I/O hardware required. To enable appropriate choice of the equipment based on requirements of applications software which might be used, a range of available devices are discussed. Many packages, for example, require a colour screen to be fully effective, while to take, advantage of the fonts and type faces available in some word processing packages requires a laser printer. However, a brief account of some of the I/O devices is provided' in the following paragraphs.
