Propaganda refers to information that is deliberately spread to support a cause or position. Depending on the creator of propaganda, it can contain truth, rumors, or outright lies. In World War I, governments led propaganda campaigns to build support for their nation's war effort. Posters with graphic images of the enemy or heroic pictures of soldiers urged civilians to buy bonds and sacrifice for the war.
