One thing I hope you will take from this class' relatively brief consideration of federalism, and state and local government, is that these two things add a whole other level (or levels) of complexity to American government. How has the federal government come to work with states and localities over time, particularly since the New Deal and Great Depression? Do you think the right balance has been struck? Or should power shift more to the national government or, instead, more to states and localities?
