In this case the procedure is same except you place your hand on radial pulse. You can read systolic pressure only by this method.
- Explain the procedure to the patient. In case patient is coming for first time to check the blood pressure explain to the patient that, patient may feel tight when the cuff is inflated.
- Tell the patient to relax. Sit on the chair with arm supported on the table or lie down on the bed.
- Roll the sleeves of the shirt of left arm if patient is wearing long sleeve dress. It should be 5 inches above the elbow. In case sleeves are tight, loosen it.
- Place the centre of the deflated cuff of the BP apparatus firmly around the patient's arm, 2 inches above the elbow joint or brachial artery.
