Heuristic denotes by trial and error. In organizational behavior the phrase heuristics provides the set of implicit biases and decision-making roles that individuals hold in their minds as a result of previous misunderstanding of probability, experience, and selective perception. These "rules of thumb" often lead to less than optimal decisions.
