Hell Volhard-zelinsky reaction
In presence of Red P and diffused light or Hell Volhard-zelinsky reaction
Carboxylic acid comprising an α-hydrogen react with Cl2 or Br2 in the existence of a small amount of red phosphorus to provide chloro acetic acid. The reaction is termed as Hell Volhard-zelinsky reaction.
Many ionic crystals dissolve in water because: (1) Water is an amphiprotic solvent (2)Water is a high boiling liquid (3) The process is accompanied by a positive heat of
1-methylcyclohexene Because 1-methylcyclohexene has dissimilar numbers of alkyl branches at the carbons of its double bond, it gives dissimilar products in the two reactions.
