Heat treating equipment, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Heat Treating Equipment:

The major equipment for heat treatment is furnace. There are two main categories of furnaces - batch and continuous. The furnace selection needs consideration of various points mostly for the purpose that they consume a superior amount of energy. The efficient utilization of energy in furnaces and thus their design and utilization of suitable insulation requires consideration. The man power condition for operation, the cost and initial and convenience of repair and maintenance are other significant considerations in choosing furnace for heat treatment. Because temperature control and temperature cycle control are very significant in heat treatment, computer and electronic controlled furnace are taking precedence over older category.

Heating in furnace is completed with burning oil or gas or with electrical inductance or resistance heating. Gas or oil furnace have distinct drawback over electrical furnaces since the former often initiates products of combustion in the heating space so affecting the part to be treated. The electrical heating, conversely, has slower start-up and is not simple to control.
