Goal-Setting Theory

Edwin Locke proposed that intentions to work toward a target are major sources of work motivation. The theory states that exact and difficult motive lead to higher performance. Research has shown that the key to the effectiveness of target- setting is not necessarily whether employees participate in setting the goals or not but rather that the targets are accepted and agreed upon by employees.
