Gender Roles in Society: A Global Perspective

The role of a woman and a man in society is influenced through a variety of factors. These factors vary along with the culture, religion, region, historical beliefs, climate, living experiences and principles, across the globe. Thus, gender role in society can be explained as the role portrayed through a single along with respect to a combination of factors or any one of them, depending upon the living situation. Such factors can be categorized as roles based upon the categorization - female, male or a combination of both, and their roles based upon physical character or and psychological and sexual orientation, either like a result of self preferences or social bonding.

For illustration, males are further interested in or execute physically tough activities as, working in heavy industries, and defense services whereas females carry out tasks like raising children, embroidery, and cooking. Whereas these roles are explained and mostly categorized in various societies, this distinction turns into rarer in developed societies as the Western Europe or US.

Professional commitments, education, child care, household work, societal matters are the different activities or responsibilities in a general social framework. All these roles were segregated on the basis of sex, but now it is more of a selection and based upon the interest of a particular. Conversely, there are various societies in the world that continue to stick to the traditional gender tasks. A female is generally expected, or interested in household work, obliged to do, child education and care, leaving professional and social tasks more for the males.

The manner in which gender tasks are assimilated and learned through a group of people makes the socialization thought. Whereas the concept of society is particularly varied, the roles also, willing, undergo forced or revolting changes therefore. Within several places, these roles in socially acceptable behavior do not permit marriage outside a particular sector or community. For instants, there is no constraint along with respect to the societal obligations, and the gender tasks are flexible. Hence, the type of social structure prevalent at a place explains them in a society to a huge extent.
