Fluid Mechanics or Properties - Specific Gravity

Dimensionless ratio of a fluid's density to some standard reference density. For liquids and solids, the reference density is pure water.

SG liquid = ρliquid water                   ρwater = 62.4 lb/ft3 @ room temperature

Oils and hydrocarbons have specific gravities less than 1.

Acids, caustics and wastewater sludges have specific gravities greater than 1

Greek symbol: none

Units: none - dimensionless
