Explain what is Fungi?
The fungi are spore-bearing eukaryotic organisms without chlorophyll and having absorptive nutrition. These reproduce sexually as well asexually. Primarily, these are terrestrial microorganisms, though some are present in aquatic environment also, both in marine and fresh water. Many are pathogenic to plants, animals and humans. Some fungi are present in beneficial relationship with other organisms e.g. Mycorrhizae (an association between fungi and roots of vascular plants), lichens (an association between algae and fungi) etc. The branch of microbiology which deals with the study of fungi is called mycology. The fungi are placed in a separate kingdom myceteae.
