Explain the Hyperparathyroidism

Hyperparathyroidism may occur due to a tumour in one or more of the parathyroid glands. In this condition, the calcium level of the blood increases. There is an excessive demineralization of bones and non-utilization of calcium resulting in the softening of the bones. The bone becomes painful and fracture occurs frequently.

Due to increased calcium in blood, there is a tendency of the formation of stones in the kidney. The disease is known as osteitis fibrosa cystica. Hence, parathormone along with thyroid calcitonin is essential for maintaining calcium balance in the body.
