Assignment Help:

Explain the function of the foundation

The function of the foundation is to ensure that the loads on the super structure are transmitted to the soil below the foundation without failure or deformation in excess of permissible limits for that structure. The risk associated with the possibility of deterioration of the soil during the course of the life of the structure due to the anticipated (or unanticipated) environmental changes should also be considered in the design.
