Explain the Erythropoiesis
Erythropoiesis, derived from the word 'erythros' meaning red and 'polesis' meaning making, is a part of a broader process, hemopoiesis, i.e., formation of blood cells in general. Let us get to know about it. The precursor 'of all blood cells is a primitive stem cell, also called as a Totipotent Hematopoietic Stem Cell (THSC). THSC is a cell capable of rapid proliferation accompanied by differentiation. Differentiation of the THSC is associated with subtle biochemical changes, which eventually result in a cell committed to forming a specific variety of blood cell. The process of proliferation and differentiation continues till the mature blood cells, incapable of proliferation, are formed.
