Bile is a complex fluid. It is yellowish green in colour and bitter in taste. It consists of:

Water
Mineral salts (chloride, potassium and calcium, carbonate and phosphate of sodium)
Mucus
Bile salts (sodium glycocholate, sodium taurocholate)
Bile pigments (bilirubin and biliverdin)
Cholesterol, and
Traces of fatty acids
