Assignment Help:

Explain Soft ferrites and their applications.

Soft ferrites and their applications: Such are non- metallic compounds having ferric oxide and one or two bivalent metal oxides as Nickel oxide, Zinc oxide or Manganese oxide. These have resistivity of the order of 109 ohm-cm that decreases eddy current losses at high frequency. The magnets made out of this have square hysteresis loop and high coercive force. Magnetic permeability of such materials is as high as 10,000 to 30,000. This type of materials is fabricated in shape as E, U, I, beads and self shielding pot cores.

Applications: High frequency power transformers operating at, from 10 to 100 kHz, pulse transformers up to 100' MHz, adjustable air gap inductors and recording heads utilize cores made of soft ferrites.
