(a) The relationship between organisations and information technology is a complex one, and is made up of a number of mediating factors which must be considered prior to implementation. Identify the mediating factors and discuss each one with appropriate examples.

(b) To ensure acceptable levels of response time and availability, it is important that Capacity Planning and Scalability of Information Systems are provided for. Discuss the elements which make up the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) of hardware and software assets.
