Explain Intermittent positive pressure lung inflation

When medulla is affected, the cough reflex may be lost. To prevent secretions entering the lungs, a tube is inserted into the trachea. This tube is connected to a positive pressure pump which inflates the lungs by blowing air into them. Alternatively, anegative pressure may be incorporated so that the expired air is sucked.
