Explain in brief about the Laterite soils

These soils are derived from the subaerial weathering of several types of rocks, both basic and acid under climatic conditions of alternate wet and dry seasons.  They are found mostly in areas of high rainfall.  They are light in texture and have an open free-draining structure.  They are found mostly  in areas of high rainfall and do  not retain moisture.  There is practically no horizon differentiation in the soil profile. They are deficient in lime and are slightly to moderately acid in reaction.  The pH varies from 5.0 to 6.0.
