Explain fundamental of metal casting, Mechanical Engineering

Assignment Help:

Q. Explain Fundamental of metal casting?

(1)Melting the material

(2)Allowing the molten metal to cool and solidify in the mould

"A plane where the castings are made is called "foundry". The casting process is also called as "founding". The world founding is derived from Latin word Funder means "Melting and pouring"

Advantages

• Part of intricate shapes can be produced.
• Good mechanical and service properties.
• Mechanical and automobile casting process help decrease the cast of casting

Applications

• There is hardly any machine or equipment which does not have one or
• more cast component
• Automobile engine blocks.
• Cylinder block of automobile,
• Airplane engine.
• Piston or piston ring

The mass of casting may be as great as 70% to 80% of the products mass
