Explain formation of a potential barrier in a p-n junction

Formation  of  Potential  Barrier  in  a  P-N  junction:   The  two  kinds of  extrinsic semiconductors p-type and n-type are shown in fig. (a). P-type semiconductor is having  negative  acceptor  ions  and  positively  charged  holes.   While the  n-type semiconductor is having positive donor ions and negatively charged electrons.
