Bella, a single mother, worked for one of Casper's Burger King Restaurants, where she had a record of perfect attendance. One Saturday, her three-year old son awoke with a high fever. Bella notified her manager that she needed to take the son to the doctor. At the emergency room, the son was diagnosed with an acute ear infection. Bella was also informed that he would need surgery to prevent further hearing loss. That same night Bella worked the night shift at another Burger King restaurant owned by Casper, while her elderly mother cared for her son. When Bella reported to work on Monday she was summarily fired. Two weeks later her son had surgery. Was Bella's leave covered under the Family Medical Leave Act? Outline the steps Bella would need to take to file a claim under the FMLA. What are the remedies available to Bella under the FMLA?
