Explain Acceptance cone?

The fibre air - core interface is display below:

In this figure Omax is the maximum angle, inside that the rays undergo total internal reflection and propagate by the fibre. The rays along with angle greater than Omax is do not obey the total internal reflection, these rays eventually lost by radiation. Therefore we have an acceptance cone as display below along with conical angle of 2 Omax.

The angle Omax is known as acceptance angle
Omax = sin- [(n12 -n22)]1/2 (suppose that the outer medium is air)
